East vs West Swim + Cover Up

Happy Thursday Babes!

June has seriously flown by y'all, here we are at the last Thursday of the month again which means it's time for East vs. West Coast Style with Pamela from Sequins & Seabreezes! Things have been so hot lately in LA and Florida so we decided to showcase swim and cover ups this time around!

I'm obsessing over Pamela in navy blue, I truly think this is her color! I also love the sleeves on her cover up ... perfect to take her from the pool to the club house for a mai tai without looking inappropriate!
I love her fringe top with stripe bottoms!
Once again, Pamela and I are just alike in our peek-a-boo cover ups!

Naturally when we were talking about what to feature this month I suggested swimwear because I've been DYING to do a beach photo shoot and low and behold, it didn't happen. I had my house warming last Saturday night and Sunday was spent cheering on good 'ol USA in the World Cup. Long story short, I went to my trusty rooftop for photos!

I bought this cover up the Summer before last when Dr. D and I went to Palm Springs because I was tired of throwing on sundresses. I was tried of shopping around at the Grove and gave in as I walked into Nordstrom. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about Nordstrom but whenever I go in there I know I'm about to drop some serious moola.
As I rode the escalator up to the swim section, I told myself I wouldn't buy anything unless it was timeless and I'd continuously wear it over the years. After my mental pep talk, I saw it hanging on the back wall in an array of colors with a big SALE sign above it - this was too good to be true! I grabbed it in hot pink, white and black and went to the fitting room because sometimes you just need to try the color on against your skin to know what you're getting yourself into.
Cover Up: Becca by Rebecca Virtue // Fedora: H&M // Bathing Suit: Victoria Secret // Sunnies: Ray Ban

Turns out black looked the best and was the only color NOT on sale. Go figure. I was so in love with it at that point I dropped the $120 ... yes it still makes me cringe ... grabbed my shiny gray bag and booked it the hell out of there. Looking back I'm SO glad I bought it because I wear it every single time I go to the pool, spa, or beach. Sometimes it's worth it to spend the extra money for a quality piece!

Do y'all have any pieces in your closet you're thankful you spent the money on?

Cobalt Blue & Stylish Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday Dolls!

Lately I've been obsessing over cobalt blue! I went on a major shopping spree a couple of weeks back for my cousins wedding in Dallas, and ended up with 4 cobalt blue dresses! It didn't hit me until I went to hang them up in my OCD color coordinated closet and they all went into the same section ... don't know which is more embarrassing, a color coordinated closet or that I indeed bought 4 dresses the same exact color in one shopping trip!

This was initially one of those stated dresses I bought for the wedding. I adore the 3/4 length sleeves and how flattering the fit and flare style is. The small horizontal lines added texture to the dress and felt amazing to rub my hand up and down my arm (guilty as charged, because y'all know I did that all day long!)

I didn't end up wearing it to the wedding (because let's be honest, I would have died in the Texas heat y'all!) but I did wear it to a work meeting last week and got loads of compliments. Best of all, it was a steal for less than $25 from Forever 21!

When it came to accessorizing this beauty, I kept it very simple. Normally I love to layer necklaces, add a watch to literally every outfit and pair with statement earrings on top of it all but honestly, this dress speaks for itself.

I added a waist belt to break up all of the blue and tie in my nude/rose gold heels. The statement earrings matched so perfectly, I had to showcase them by putting my hair up and letting them be the star of the show!
If you know me, you know that I'm a sucker for a good arm party. Most people feel naked without their phone and while I too am one of those people, if my left wrist isn't stacked and my right wrist doesn't have a hair tie, my whole day is caught off balance.

You gals get it, hair ties are an essential wrist accessory and you never need it until the one time you do and your trusty rubber band isn't there ... whomp whomp!
Ladies, these heels are EVERYTHING! The heel is a perfect 3 1/2 inch height so you don't feel like you're going to break your neck as you walk around. The cut out's are on trend along with the textured leather and metallic rose gold heel. My favorite part is the ankle support - I truly feel like I could run a mile in these puppies.

Shout out to my blogger bud, Adri from Adri Lately for helping convince me these bad boys needed to be purchased. I don't even know why I was contemplating now!

I'm Dating A Doctor!

Happy Friday Y'all!

This time last week I was on my way to Orange County to spend the weekend with a bunch of my friends from undergrad celebrating Dr. D's big weekend ... to say I miss it would be an understatement! It was so nice to see my sorority sisters and just catch up like we did not too long ago.
Dr. D and his not so little brother
Acting like the kids we all truly are!

Friday night was pretty low key just hanging out, took a late night swim and telling stories about the college days we all genuinely miss. I think the picture above captures it all!

Saturday we spent the afternoon/evening at his aunt and uncle's house in Irvine. They threw an amazing party for him and we all had a wonderful time.
The sun was in all of their eyes, but they were troopers taking photos!

His family had filled the house with decorations but the most amazing part of the entire party was the life size cut out they had made of Dr. D! It was from the night things all began with him and I in Vegas 2 1/2 years ago so it made it that much more special to me when I saw it.
The party wouldn't have been complete without Morgs there. We may not be roommates anymore, but I can't imagine celebrating this achievement without her. She's helped support Dr. D the past 2 years more than she knows
With the graduation boy! He's just so darn handsome!

Sunday morning I drove back to LA and met up with Dr. D and his family for dinner at The Grove. We all got various things at the farmers market and had a really nice evening before his big day.

In a blink of an eye, Monday was upon us. It was a little odd celebrating a graduation on a Monday evening, but there's so many kids at UC Riverside it made sense. After sitting in 3 hours of traffic from LA to Riverside (yes that's a 60 mile drive) and nearly missing commencement, I made it in the knick of time and got to watch his big moment - getting hooded.
As Dr. D got hooded I couldn't describe my emotions. Not only was I so immensely proud of him, it also hit me that our lives are truly just beginning. Everything is going to change in August when he either moves to Ohio or San Francisco for a job, (depending on which one he takes) and we'll once again be in a long distance relationship.

I don't tend to get into too many details about mine and his relationship on my blog, but right now I can't help it. The whole time we've been together it's been a distant relationship in the sense where we only see each other on weekend's and in a few short months it's going to be once every month or so I'll get to actually be in his arms.
I love this man more and more everyday. I'm beyond lucky to be blessed with such an amazing man by my side supporting me in all that I do, but this weekend was about him and all that he's done. Anyone that can finish a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering in 4 years rather than 5 or 6 has already accomplished a tremendous fete, but to finish it and receive multiple job offers right off the bat is remarkable.

He's spent the last week in San Francisco with his family and I can't wait to spend the weekend with him when he gets back tomorrow.

Do any of you have any big weekend plans?

Tribal Shorts + Stylish Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday Dolls!

This weekend was truly one for the books. Dr. D threw a major graduation party in Orange County to celebrate his PhD and we all couldn't have been more proud. His family flew in from the East Coast and truly made the entire weekend all about him - as it should be!
The weather in LA has been HOT, HOT, HOT y'all and frankly I'm not a fan of sweating to death the second I step outside so I live in shorts & tanks in the Summer. I bought these shorts for Dr. D's and my trip to Cabo back in April but never actually documented the outfit ... until now!
The second I saw these tribal beauties at a boutique in Santa Monica I knew I had to have them. They're high waisted, which initially made me nervous, but I truly could live in these shorts all day long. The leather waist band adds a great subtle detail
I paired it with my turquoise spike necklace and go to black cut out Aldo wedges. They may be 4 inches tall but they're seriously so comfortable you'd never even know!
Tank: Ann Taylor // Shorts: LUSH // Necklace: Sage K & Co // Earrings: Versona // Bracelets: Lily & Laura // Ring: Steinmart // Wedges: Aldo

What's your favorite trend of the Summer?

Isn't this midi dress darling? I'm completely smitten over the lace detailing on the top and cut out sides! Her cut out brown heels are the perfect brown contrast with the black dress and over-sized sunnies! I always love a good pop of color with a LBD and her green clutch is spot on!
